What is electroneum

Nov 4th 2017. The electroneum coin is a new cryptocurrency made in UK that has launched with ICO on september the 14th. A lot of media has discussed about it and finally on November 1st, the blockchain has become public for this coin. This coin wants to be a semplified coin, easy to manage and to mine. It’s too early to understand if it will be true as promised, but it’s time to technically start mining it, because the difficulty of this coin at this moment is very low, so it’s the right moment to do it.

Install and configure Wallet

Here is how to mine this coin with Linux ubuntu. First of all download and install the wallet software, because you need a secure wallet address to start mining. You can download the linux version by this page https://downloads.electroneum.com/  Since it’s a binary install, it is very easy:

  • download locally and decompress
  • on a terminal window launch the daemon with this command

./electroneumd –log-file electroneumd.log –detach

Now on another terminal window, you have to connect with client and launch the wallet software with:

if you still dont have created a wallet, you can follow the procedure and create a new one. You will have to set a password, a wallet name and you will get a seed and a wallet address, that is necessary to start mining. Please note that wallet data will be saved into the current folder where you are running the software.

If the precompiled software doesnt work for you, then you can download source from: https://github.com/electroneum/electroneum , install dependencies with

sudo apt-get install libgtest-dev && cd /usr/src/gtest
&& sudo cmake . && sudo make && sudo mv libg*

then compile with

sudo make -j

How to start mining with cryptonight software

Now you can prepare the miner. For the miner, please note that electroneum works with cryptonight algorithm so you can easily use same miners that you use, for example, for monero CPU mining. For this reason, in this example, I used xmrig (for installation please see this article) . The configuration file must be changed in this way:

“algo”: “cryptonight”,
“av”: 0,
“background”: false,
“colors”: true,
“cpu-affinity”: null,
“cpu-priority”: null,
“donate-level”: 1,
“log-file”: “/var/log/electroneum.xmrig.log”,
“max-cpu-usage”: 95,
“print-time”: 60,
“retries”: 5,
“retry-pause”: 5,
“safe”: false,
“syslog”: false,
“threads”: null,
“pools”: [
“url”: “eupool.electroneum.com:3333”,
“user”: “<your_electroneum_wallet_address>”,
“pass”: “x”,
“keepalive”: true,
“nicehash”: false

now you can run the miner with this command

./xmrig -c electroneum.config.json -B

to check if you are mining, you have to go with a browser on pool webpage https://eupool.electroneum.com/ and insert your electroneum wallet address. After few minutes you will see shares coming in. In this case all is fine, you are mining.
